It's done. It's out. Yippeeeeeee!!!

Of course, most of you did not know I was writing a book, but it has been a very big part of my life for many months.

I have been using Dreamweaver since version two, and am delighted that I have had this opportunity to promote it, learn the program inside and out, and pass that knowledge to others. Using a program, and writing about it are very different subjects. As a user, you learn what you need to know. Writing about it, you must learn what everyone needs to know, and must understand it well enough to explain it without stumbling. Often teachers will tell you that they learn more than their students – it is so true.

My publisher is Hungry Minds, formerly IDG Books. It is a Weekend Crash Course book, a series that is designed to bring people up to speed quickly on a programming language or a software program. The book is divided into 30 sessions, lasting 30 minutes each. If you choose to follow the schedule, you lock yourself away on Friday evening, and by Sunday at dinner time, you have a solid understanding of the program. No kidding – I really believe you can do that.

Working through every session, you will have completed two Web sites. The first is a simple site, designed to teach the most basic Dreamweaver functions without struggling with complex concepts. You have to roll your sleeves up for the second site, though, as we tackle much more sophisticated topics like CSS, liquid design, templates, library items, timelines and even a little DHTML.

Although this is a Dreamweaver book, I added many of the little tips and tricks I have learned about Web design along the way. Things like liquid design, cross-browser compatibility issues, accessibility basics and more. I never let anyone forget we are working with HTML and promote learning as much as you can about any code you use.

Just released, March 2001! My first full length book on Dreamweaver 4. Available through Amazon.com.

You can get a taste of the book with the Table of Contents and the sample chapter included here. I have provided the files if you would like to work through building a Navigation Bar (all required files are included on the CD-ROM with the book). You don't need any files to build the customized drop-down menu that is included in this sample session.

I will be setting up a Web site shortly to go with this book. Check back for the address and updates.

That's enough out of me. Take a peek at the sample. Of course, I will be tickled pink if you buy it. However, my main love is still graphics and this column, so don't get to having so much fun with Dreamweaver that you never come back to visit. A book is exciting, but the column goes on, and on, and on ...
