Twirling GIF Animations

Using Imageready and Photoshop

Last time out we built a complex animation and assembled it in a table so it would load faster. This time I'll keep with the animation theme, but will show you how to use the Photoshop twirl filter to create a progressive image distortion.

The basic approach is to build an image, copy it to multiple layers. Then you incrementally apply a filter to each layer, increasing the distortion and creating the effect. I show the basic procedure with the twirl filter, but you could do it with just about any filter you wish.
