Microtech Redesign- Pg2- Giordan On Graphics
Check those traffic patterns
The first thing we did was study the existing Webtrends traffic reports. They showed that most people were visiting for product information, jumping directly to the pages that showed specifications and-or part numbers. As is all too often the case, these pages were buried three or four levels deep within the site, with only a cryptic "products" link lighting the way in miniscule ten point type. You felt that you were taking a leap of faith when you followed that products link, unsure of where you would end up.
To fix this, I created separate paths to digital photography products and memory products directly from the home page. In fact, I devoted the entire left side of the screen, aligned with an eye-catching graphic, just to those two links. The lesson is an important one: figure out WHY people are coming to your site, and make it as easy as possible for them to get there.
