HyperCard Reborn?

My attitude towards WYSIWYG HTML editors is no secret. Until recently, using such an abomination was tantamount to genocide in my list of sins, even justifying roasting the offender over burning charcoal until he renounces FONT elements and other works of the devil.

But, to be honest, the last time I used one of these things was years ago. I think it was the first version of Netscape Navigator Gold (shiver), the precursor to what is today called Composer. I also dabbled with an early version of Microsoft FrontPage once, for about 5 minutes (that's how long it took for me to figure out what the installation CD was good for and put my coffee cup on it). All of these memories rank way up there with that near-fatal car accident in June 1997 as Things I'd Like To Forget.

But times are a-changing. When SoftQuad was kind enough to volunteer a review copy of the latest version of HoTMetaL PRO, I decided to let go of my preconceptions and try to be objective. Besides, how bad could it be? Let's find out.
