Like Navigator 4.0x, Internet Explorer 4.0x features a wealth of new and revised events. In fact, it supports approximately 40 events (new and old). In this section of the column we'll introduce the most important ones: mouse and keyboard events. We'll discuss other events in future columns, based on our needs. For a full list of Internet Explorer 4.0x's events, be sure to read Microsoft's official documentation.

The keyboard and mouse events in Internet Explorer 4.0x are:

  • click
  • dblclick
  • keydown
  • keypress
  • keyup
  • mousedown
  • mouemove
  • mouseover
  • mouseout
  • mouseup

These are Internet Explorer 4.0x's most important events, because any element can fire them. In other words, with Internet Explorer 4.0x, every HTML element on the page can be the source for a full set of mouse and keyboard events.

We'll discuss the other events in our next column, while comparing each and every event to its equivalent in Navigator 4.0x.
