A Final Word

In this column we concluded our series on embedding Flash objects in Web pages. We presented the basics of Flash and the FlashSound JavaScript API in Column 81, Embedding Sound with Flash, Part I: The Basics. We extended our coverage to multiple tracks and the interaction between them in Column 82, Embedding Sound with Flash, Part II: Playing Variations, and we concluded our coverage of the FlashSound JavaScript API in Column 83, Embedding Sound with Flash, Part III: Streams. We then turned our attention to native JavaScript support of Flash in Column 84, Embedding Sound with Flash, Part IV: Native JavaScript. In Column 85, Embedding Movies with Flash, Part I: Basic Methods we started a mini-series on embedding Flash movies, with emphasis on the Flash movie's methods. We continued this mini-series in Column 86, Embedding Movies with Flash, Part II: Basic Properties, focusing on how to set and get the Flash movie's properties. In this column we extended our coverage of properties to those that allow advanced effects, such as dimming and rotating.

In this column we showed you how to set and get more Flash properties. We taught you how to change the visibility of a movie, how to rotate and dim it, and how to change its graphic quality. We presented properties to find the length of a movie in frames, its frame's width and height, and its SWF's URL. Finally, we also showed how to name a movie and how to detect its loading progress.

In this column we used opener.swf, courtesy of www.associatesinscience.com.

In this column you have learned:

You can download the Flash Player, the Flash Embedding JavaScript include file, and the opener.swf SWF example. You can also find these files in one zipped file.
