The communication between the Code Behind and the ASP.NET page is through a binary dll that includes the compiled definition of the relevant class. When the .NET framework finds that the compiled version of the Code Behind is stale (i.e. the Code Behind source code changed after its last compilation), it compiles the Code Behind automatically. But you can also compile it by yourself, like this:
The /r: switch makes sure the add Web service namespace is under the bin directory. It is needed to satisfy the import calcService directive. The binaries are going to the codebehind dll file. The following Command Prompt window shows the Code Behind and the response of the compiler:
