>A Data Sanctuary Is Born
The world's smallest country, a former gun platform anchored in the stormy North Sea, is about to become the first Internet data haven. But can the cypherpunk founders avoid angering government officials? http://www.wired.com/news/business/0,1367,36749,00.html
>Is There an ASP in Your Future?
Application service providers can lower costs and enable new external customer services. But think carefully before you outsource. When selecting an ASP, you should consider security, bandwidth and the ASP's overall approach. http://www.nwc.com/1111/1111f1.html NWC.com, 000605
>Content Management and Distribution Using XML
The first article in a series that begins the construction of XMLCast: a real-world example using XML to manage and distribute content to multiple applications, devices, or customers. http://www.wirelessdevnet.com/articles/jun2000/xmlcast.html WirelessDevNet.com, 000601

NET NEWS: Domain Hackers Target internet.com, Adobe Ships Updated Illustrator, VBS Worm Targets Gnutella Users, FBI, DOJ Issue List of Worst Net Threats, News Sites Mashed by Spud Pranksters
>Domain Hackers Target internet.com
The rash of domain name hijacking attempts that was first reported last week continued Monday with Jupitermedia Corp. (publisher of WebReference.com) among the latest targets. The would-be hijackers spoofed the identity of an internet.com employee and succeeded in having the public Internic record for internet.com changed. As of mid-day, the WHOIS record for internet.com incorrectly listed BCS Inc. of Montreal, QC as the domain name owner. internet.com technical staff were assured by NSI that the DNS records would not be re-directed and the mistake would be rectified within hours. http://www.internetnews.com/wd-news/article/0,2171,10_387931,00.html InternetNews.com, 0605
>Adobe Ships Updated Illustrator
Adobe Systems Inc. is now shipping Adobe Illustrator 9.0, the latest major upgrade to the vector graphics creation software. The newest version features an increased focus on Web-friend features, including more reliable Web browser previews and transparency controls, and the ability to output compact Flash Shockwave Format (SWF) and SVG (scalable vector format) files as well as optimized GIF, JPEG and PNG files. http://www.internetnews.com/wd-news/article/0,2171,10_386221,00.html InternetNews.com, 000602
>VBS Worm Targets Gnutella users
It's little more than an irritant, but a new Visual Basic Script worm forces Gnutella users to look before they download. A worm with attitude, it copies the warning, "If I was a naughty boy, I could use scripting to get name, email, whatever file I want." http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2581605,00.html ZDNet.com, 000602
>FBI, DOJ Issue List of Worst Net Threats
The FBI, the Department of Justice and the System Administration, Networking and Security Institute are jointly releasing a list detailing the 10 most critical Internet security threats and how to eliminate them. http://www.cnn.com/2000/TECH/computing/06/02/net.threats.idg/index.html CNN.com, 000602
>News Sites Mashed by Spud Pranksters
When a bunch of pranksters claimed to be running a Web server from a dozen potatoes, you'd think the alarm bells would start ringing. But last week more than one online news source fell for the potato powered Web server story. Cover me in gravy and call me silly - we reported it right here ourselves...

That's it for this week, see you next time.
