AOL unwrapped its latest Netscape 8.0 browser with more security and ease- of-use functionality for novice Web surfers. The Netscape 7.x series of browsers were based on the Mozilla Foundation's Mozilla Suite. Netscape 8.0 and future versions will be based on Firefox. (The Mozilla Foundation recently scuttled future development of its Mozilla suite.)

Google brought its AdSense contextual advertising service to RSS content in a beta test launched on Wednesday. The program for RSS feeds follows the AdSense model for Web sites and blogs. Search rival Yahoo quietly began inserting ads in some feeds last November. Kanoodle, an online ad network, began serving ads into RSS feeds last summer.
