makes searching for an image file by keyword difficult. Instead of being
able to simply open the file to see what it contains, you're stuck looking
at the text around it and other metadata to determine the image's meaning.

The World Wide Web Consortium released "xml:id Version 1.0" as a W3C
Recommendation. The specification defines an attribute name, xml:id, that
can always be treated as an identifier and hence can always be recognized,
without fetching external resources, and without relying on an internal
subset. The Recommendation is the latest deliverable of the XML Core
Working Group, part of the W3C XML Activity.
