Everybody knows about phishing, right? Basically, it's "the act of sending an e-mail to a user falsely claiming to be an established legitimate enterprise in an attempt to scam the user into surrendering private information that will be used for identity theft." (Webopedia) We've all received them, their the ones from CitiBank or PayPal that need to update your account (although you don't have an account with either of them).

- Windows Live One Care Beta Goes Live
After six months of non-public beta testing, Microsoft has opened up its Windows OneCare Live into a widely available public beta. Windows OneCare Live, which Microsoft first announced in May, is a subscription-based service that provides automated performance tuning, maintenance, anti-spyware and anti-virus protection.

Security firm Sophos is warning Internet users to be a little more wary of the IRS than usual this week after a slew of phishing e-mails disguised as refund notification from the agency were discovered. The phishers are taking advantage of an apparent security configuration error on the real IRS Web site that redirects visitors to a bogus Web site, according to Sophos Labs.

Sun continued to unlock its software assets with the free release of its Java Enterprise System and N1 Software. The products will be included in a comprehensive software infrastructure platform known as the Solaris Enterprise System. Earlier this month, Sun expanded the open source support inside of its flagship Solaris OS adding the open source PostgreSQL database, Xen virtualization, GRUB boot loader and the Solaris ZettaByte File System.
