How to Gain the Trust of Your List

While the rest of the world has developed many barriers and protective methods to keep their e-mail accounts spam-free, there are also those that subscribe to message that promote different types of products, services and Web sites. This is mainly because these subscribers want to know more about what these sites offer and how they can be beneficial. They expect to be kept posted on what they're interested in and what's new in the market or field they've chosen.

For a business to gain these kinds of customers, the most important ingredient is trust. When your customers trust you they will reward you with their loyalty. Many Internet users have gone to great lengths to protect their email accounts from spam mail. Some ISP's (Internet service providers) offer spam protection and there are also some Internet based companies that screen your messages for you.

With an opt-in mail list (containing your promotional materials such as newsletters, catalogs and marketing media), your intended recipient will be able to read and view what you've sent. To be allowed to do so, you need permission. With the lack of respect for privacy in the Internet, getting the trust of an Internet user you don't personally know is a big achievement. The more people trust you the faster the word will spread and you'll attract more subscribers to your list. Over time this can generate more profit. Getting the numbers isn't that simple, though, or is it?

Building trust need not be difficult if you have a legitimate business and valued expertise. People rely on other people who know what they're talking about. So what do offer? Free information, helpful hints and guidelines that pertain to what you're selling. Talk about how to install a roof if you're into hardware products or provide articles on insurance settlements if you're a settlement lawyer. You don't have to be a big corporation to make use of an opt-in list. If your customers see you as someone who provides valuable information, they are likely to trust you quickly.

Once your customers trust you, they're likely to refer you to their friends. To maintain this relationshiop, it's important to consistently offer valuable information. This makes it much easier to introduce products when it comes time to do so.

Another tip in getting a customer to trust you quickly is to provide offer them a simple way to unsubscribe from your list whenever they wish to do so. This information needs to be contained in the body of all your messages.

When you get the trust of your clients don't abuse it. If you do (such as selling your list when you've said that you won't), you'll lose existing subscribers as well as potential subscribers.

[Ed. Note: An important step in creating a list is to use an autoresponder. Also, I recommend the use of a double opt-in feature when building a list. This minimizes spam complaints. As for the software to do all this, I recommend aweber.]
