Easy Output for Bloggers

A new setting in the Production Wizard is the Blog button. Here it's recommend that you use a Flash file which creates a single ExpressShow SWF that you would use to embed in a blog.

When you do so, the resulting file is an ExpressShow file, as seen above. Camtasia creates a thumbnail of the first frame and an overlay with a play button.

Clicking on the play button brings up the following image and all the play controls are embedded into one file.

Other options for bloggers are being able to publish to Screencast.com or make use of the built-in FTP settings to upload videos. For users who want to create full motion content, the FLV format is the better choice.

New Project Settings

With this new setting you can edit your videos at the size you want to produce them. Let's say I wanted to produce my video at 400x300 for a blog, Camtasia Studio will automatically adjust the size of my view onscreen so I can see what's happening at the new format. And if my video was recorded at a higher aspect ratio, such as 640x480, SmartFocus will be enabled. When SmartFocus is activated, it will generate keyframes on your timeline. When using SmartFocus you can access the different keyframes and zoom in or out as necessary. You can adust the positioning of the zoom and change the duration, as well.

New Transitions

In this section, new transitions have been added, such as fade through black and cube rotate. Another feature is being able to quickly apply one transition to all clips in the timeline. Another new feature is the ability to add a 3D edge to callouts, improving the appearance onscreen.

PowerPoint

If you're a PowerPoint user, take a look at these videos and see what Camtasia Studio 5 will do for you.

To watch an overview of the the features in Camtasia Studio 5, check out this video. Note: This will probably take awhile to load since the file is 57MB.

System Requirements

Windows XP or Vista, MS DirectX 9 or later, minimum 1.0 GHz processor, recommended: 2.5 GHz (for PowerPoint and camera recordings), minimum of 500 MB RAM, recommended: 1.0 GB, 60 MB of hard-disk space. If you use the Camtasia Studio Add-in for PowerPoint, you need PowerPoint 2000, 2002, 2003, or 2007. To produce for the Apple iPod, you need QuickTime 7.1 or later.

Pricing and Availability

You can purchase Camtasia Studio 5 for $299.00 or $149.00 for an upgrade. A free trial is also available and will run for 30 days. To try out Screencast, a 60 day trial account is available.
