Identifying Installed Fonts
overcoming a built-in limitation, and saving bandwidth

It can be appreciated by users of any browser, any version. In-page examples will work only in Explorer 4+ and Navigator 4+.

Where there's a will there's a way.

Although there are no built-in DHTML and JavaScript methods to identify installed fonts on a user's system, it is possible with the workaround function discussed in this column.

Prerequisites

• Familiarity with simple creation and updating of positioned elements in both Explorer and Navigator. Most of the content at DHTML Lab uses positioned elements.

First you must be convinced that there is a good reason for identifying installed fonts.
