Java Applets

Next to form elements, Java applets are the most common page-inclusions that have the persistence problem. The table below includes a small applet. You know the routine (grab...drag).

The dynamictextApp applet was written by Nick Heinle.
Documentation, including much more dynamic uses of the applet with Live Connect, can be found in the JavaScript Tip of the Week Repository here at WebReference.

The applet above displays a message sent to it from JavaScript. If you are using IE for Macintosh, you will not see it as there is no Java-JavaScript communication in IEMac. The persistence problem is still visible, however.

On the next page, we'll look at some third-party plug-ins.
