Internet Explorer 6 provides full support of CSS Level 1. It includes margin, border, and padding on inline elements, first-letter and first-line functionality, and dotted and dashed borders. To force Internet Explorer to operate in such a strict mode, you must include the !DOCTYPE switch in the beginning of your document. Documents without the !DOCTYPE declaration behave as they did in previous versions, thereby maintaining backward compatibility.
